Normandy and the Somme

The cathedral in Amiens, how it might have looked in Medieval timesNormandy and the Somme feature prominently in humanity’s history from earliest times to the very recent past. Surely no other two regions of France have repeatedly been at the forefront of World events as Normandy and the Somme have. It was in the gravels of the Somme River that archaeologists first excavated some of the earliest stone tools made by humans over a million years ago. Today it is memorials to Men from all over the World who died in their brave attempts to liberate France in the twentieth century.

A lighthouse on the Normandy coastWith a base at my highly praised Bed and Breakfast on the Normandy and Somme border, therefore – no repeated transfers from one hotel to another, I offer personal and private, guided tours of Normandy and the Somme, for 2 to 6 people. With over a million years of history and cultural heritage you really are spoilt for choice, whether you would like to watch the sun set over the Somme bay while enjoying a five course meal on a steam train, or explore any of the memorials to men who fell during the two World wars.

For as few as two days, and for as long as you choose, I will escort you to the attractions of Normandy and the Somme of your choice.

A tomb for an unknown British Soldier at ThiepvalFor the last six years I have been running a B&B and holiday cottage at Basse Copette on the Normandy/Somme border. During this time, not only have I been exploring this area myself, but I have heard feedback from hundreds of guests who have explored the two areas themselves. I have come to know what there is, and what is worth seeing where, and when. I have put together an entirely flexible and all-inclusive package.

To create your personal tour of Normandy and the Somme, you decide the length of your tour, from as short as 2 days (3 nights), and then choose which of the above day-tips you would like to include on your itinerary. To help you decide, click on the links above for further details about each of the day-trips listed, and any date restrictions (for example, the dinner aboard the steam train is not available every day).

The minimum number of people required for the guided tour is two, and the maximum is six (not including me). So, you are assured of a private, more personal experience. And, as long as there are at least two of you, once you secure your reservation you will not have to worry about the disappointment of your dates being cancelled because there are insufficient people signed up for the tour.

Your Accommodation

Accommodation for your private guided tour of Normandy and the Somme is provided at my B&B and holiday cottage at Basse Copette. Basse Copette is ideally and centrally situated so that the above can be visited without having to continuously change hotels, and yet experience for yourself the best that Normandy and the Somme has to offer. The only exception are the trips to Bayeaux Tapestry and Mont Saint Michel, and Caen and the D-Day Beaches. These two trips should be taken together – and for this we will have a night away from Basse Copette.

Luxury Bed & BreakfastIf there are just two of you, you will be accommodated in my luxury B&B suite. The room is large with a comfortable, four-poster kingsize bed, and an entirely separated and private ensuite bathroom. Here you will find a roll-top bath and a separate shower. Groups with more than two people will also be accommodated in the luxury, garden cottage, as comfortable and as well appointed as the B&B suite.
